Walking & Hiking

Nestled in the middle of beautiful mountain landscape, Wānaka has some tracks you just can't beat. Grab your walking shoes and explore some of our favourites: 

  • Mt Aspiring National Park - there are many tracks located in Mt Aspiring, spanning from short walks to large hikes. Learn more about the tracks here.
  • Mount Iron - located walking distance from Wānaka township is Mount Iron, one of the more popular short walks. Read more here.
  • Diamond Lake - Offering a short or half day walk, Diamond Lake is located out past Glendhu Bay. Be prepared for stairs & it can be icy in the winter. The views are however, unbeatable.
  • Wānaka Lakefront - Perhaps you're after a gentle walk instead. Wānaka lakefront is a great option and offers accessibility for all. Flat, well made paths loop around the lake, offering beautiful picnic and swimming spots as you go. 

Eating & Drinking

With wonderful eating and drinking options scattered around the township, you sure won't be disappointed. From high end bistro dining, to delicious casual food trucks, Wānaka offers a spot for every occasion.

  • Skydive Wānaka - It's not everyday you strap yourself to a stranger and jump out of a plane.

  • Crossfire Wānaka - For those who prefer two feet on the ground, enjoy a unique combination of shooting and accuracy challenges just ten minutes drive from Wānaka central. Great for families.
  • Water Sports - There are numerous operators who will take you on the water, whether jet boating, parasailing, or jet skiing is your business, Wānaka has it all.
  • Skiing - With Wānaka being surrounded by world-class mountains, we suggest hiring some ski gear and exploring what the snow has to offer.
